City of God

Unsafe — contains visual nudity and/or sex scenes

Sex & Nudity Content

Visual content only. References, dialogue, and jokes don't count.

  • Some nudity but not graphic at all.
  • A man is described as a "rapist," though this is never seen or talked about again.
  • In the brief orgy scene in the motel, an extremely quick shot shows a woman's bare breasts for about half a second. The only other nudity shown are a couple of bare buttocks. No genital nudity.
  • Lots of themes of sexuality, lots of sex talk, and aspirations to lose one's virginity, to rape, and to get laid.
  • Two different scenes where guys are completely naked other than their hands slightly covering their genitals. We see pubic hair and lots of side butt, but they manage to hide the rest.
  • We hear a woman recount an extremely graphic sex act that involves anal and using bananas. We then cut to see a banana and active, writhing nude bodies blurred behind it.
  • A man is forced to strip at a party. No graphic nudity.
  • Sexually suggestive dialogues refer to genitals and common practices in sexual relations. An example occurs when Dadinho states that "Angélica was the only 'chick' he had sex with and that he was dying to lose his virginity to her." These references serve to illustrate the precocity and normalization of adult themes among young people in vulnerable environments, echoing social critiques about the loss of childhood innocence in urban peripheries, as a discourse in sociological analyses of favelas in Brazil.
  • A bare chested man gets out of bed. Not graphic.
  • A scene in a hotel shows a naked man on top of a woman, and then he suddenly jumps up, and off of her. It happens fast, but during this brief moment, the man's entire genitals are shown, as well as the woman's breasts.
  • One of the main themes of the movie is rape.
  • A man is shown having to strip for a police check. You only see his chest and this is not graphic, nor sexual.
